Open Call for Teaching Artists

The Ringling is looking for experienced teaching artists for a new hands-on workshop program, Lifelong Art at The Ringling!

  • Aims to create community and teach artistic skills through workshops for older adults.
  • 8-session series, requiring a 9-week commitment from the Teaching Artist
  • Workshop series may run concurrently and are offered at The Ringling (up to 15 participants) and in the community at partner organization locations (up to 25 participants).
  • Sessions are 2-3 hours.
  • Each workshop series ends in a culminating event to celebrate the participants. Culminating events will be shaped and planned by the teaching artist in collaboration with workshop participants and museum staff.
  • Workshop series include instruction in a studio environment as well as museum galleries. Workshops may include curator-led tours, behind-the-scenes art viewing, and other unique opportunities to engage with museum collections.
Teaching Artists in the following disciplines are invited to apply for this contract engagement:
  • Visual art, all disciplines
  • Poetry and creative writing
  • Performance art, including but not limited to dance and movement Circus arts
  • Costume and textile design
Compensation
  • Pay is a flat rate of $2,400 for each workshop series.
  • This is a contract-based position with final terms and dates to be discussed with the Education Department.
  • The Ringling provides all supplies and a staff member will be present to assist during all sessions. Additional instructional support will be coordinated by the Teaching Artist.
Responsibilities
  • Submit an overview of program instruction and materials list to Education Department by session deadline.
  • Attend all relevant training provided by The Ringling.
  • Implement all workshop sessions at The Ringling and/or partner location.
  • Work with Ringling staff to implement culminating event.
  • Attend culminating event and provide public remarks.
  • Work with Ringling staff to administer evaluation for workshop series.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Must have 1-2 years of experience teaching the art form for which you apply. Able to engage with individuals of diverse backgrounds in an equitable fashion. Experience working with older adults preferred.
  • Work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient computer skills including the ability to communicate via email. Detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and have access to reliable transportation. All Teaching Artist appointments involving outreach in our community require a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Must be flexible working in a team environment.
  • Must be willing to undergo Level II background and clearance checks.
