50th Anniversary Rose Show to Honor Active Military and Veterans at the Ringling Museum

Sarasota, FL—Oct. 9, 2008—For the second consecutive year the Bradenton-Sarasota Rose Society will hold its Annual Rose Show at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. To celebrate the show’s 50th Anniversary, active military personnel and veterans will be honored with a special admission price of $6 to the Estate which includes admission into the rose show.

“Last year’s show at the Ringling Museum was such a success that we couldn’t pass it up again this year,” says Philip Paul, President of the Bradenton-Sarasota Rose Society. “Because this is such a milestone in our society’s history, we find it fitting to have it at the historic Mable Ringling Rose Garden and to honor our country’s servicemen and women.”

The Bradenton-Sarasota Rose Show is an all-day affair.  The show will begin with a rose competition highlighting the introduction and promotion of exceptional roses from throughout the Southeast.  Judges from the American Rose Society (ARS) will judge entries on the merit of all aspects of the rose. Winners will be announced at 1 p.m. in the Education/Conservation Building.

An educational program by Philip Paul, “Easier Care Roses,” will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the Education/Conservation Building. The program will give every gardener, from the novice to the advanced, tips and insights on ways to care for roses that are easy and effective.

Latimar Farr, author of The Southern Queen, the only book about growing roses in South Florida, will be signing his book and offering tips on growing roses in South Florida from Noon-1 p.m.

Guided tours by certified Rosarians of the Mable Ringling Rose Gardens will be available at various times between 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Roses from a local nursery will be available for purchase throughout the day and local rosarians will be available to answer questions throughout the day.

The Bradenton-Sarasota Rose Society is a non-profit educational organization that serves the needs of Manatee and Sarasota County rose growers.  The society has monthly educational meetings and rose growing workshops for all levels from January through June and September through December.  The society also has a group of Consulting Rosarians certified by the American Rose Society available for consultations on growing roses in Florida.
